How Do You Measure a Year?

So far, I have over thirty doodles posted in this site. That’s pretty much a doodle biweekly. That may not sound much, still, I think that it is a good start. Besides, the doodles you see here are not all the doodles I’ve drawn throughout the year. There are dozens more. They did not get posted here for one reason or another. Yes, I was being selective – it is also not a secret that more of what I’ve produced are crappy and not worth posting (maybe some even slipped into this site?) but the point is I’ve been doodling a lot more than before I’ve started this website. I’m creating more.  The colored pencils are getting shorter.  The marker inks are being used up.  And that’s a very good thing for me. That fulfills my goal. That satisfies.

I’ve noticed that my confidence level has improved remarkably. Even the little doodles I drew at my office white board all seemed to have gotten better.  That, by itself, is a compounding difference – with this renewed confidence, the lines I draw are smoother, not crooked and hesitant.  The better the lines, the better the doodle.  The better the doodle, the more lost confidence is regained.

“Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes; how do you measure – measure a year?” Goes one of my favorite songs in the musical Rent.  How? Well, you could measure in doodles, of course!

p.s. So what does the doodle that accompanies this post have got to do with anything?  Positively nothing.  Mrs. Onion just wants to show you her tiny blue handbag.  She loves it for it matches the color of her eyes.

I’m not a big bug fan. Sure, I like the pretty ones like the butterfly, the dragonfly, and the beetle. But all bugs are interesting. Yes, I didn’t say pretty – but interesting they are. And with these three doodles I’ve come to appreciate them a little bit more. These three pieces started with me [...]

Peachy Detail

It probably is frustrating when you’re showing your art and you get a feeling that your audience just doesn’t get it.  You doubt whether you’ve expressed yourself well enough.  That you may have not conveyed your intent clear enough. Heck, that you can even make art. Sure, you may have put too much detail surrounding your [...]

Is Someone Knocking?

The “most people” in this quote is often me. I’ll come up with some idea I’d like to pursue, think about all the difficult work that’s involved in it, and give the idea up even before it has a chance to breathe, much less, a chance to succeed. Now is that opportunity I hear knocking [...]
